evomon beginner guide
Everything new trainers need to know: picking the right starter, navigating your first 30 minutes, unlocking flight, and building a powerful team without wasting resources.

1. Starter Choice β Bubble, Blazpup, or Leafbun?
Start by choosing from Professor Arden's three starter evomons. Each has distinct strengths, and your choice shapes the early game. Here's how they compare:
π§ Bubble (Water)
- β Best survivability β high HP and self-healing moves
- β Strong against early Fire-type enemies in Ember Canyon
- β Evolves into Tidalon at level 16 β a PvE powerhouse
- β οΈ Lower damage output than Blazpup
- β οΈ Struggles slightly in Frostpeak Pass
π Best for new players
π₯ Blazpup (Fire)
- β Highest damage β melts through Grass and Ice types
- β Evolves into Infernox at level 16 β top-tier PvP threat
- β Dominates Frostpeak Pass and Verdant Grove
- β οΈ Low HP and defense β needs potions often
- β οΈ Struggles against early Water-type trainers
β‘ Best for experienced players
πΏ Leafbun (Grass)
- β Balanced stats β decent in all situations
- β Status moves (Sleep Powder, Leech Seed) great for catching
- β Evolves into Verdantail at level 16 β strong support role
- β οΈ Weak to common Fire-type enemies
- β οΈ Falls off mid-game without team support
π Best for collectors
π‘ Verdict: Pick Bubble if you're new. Pick Blazpup if you want fast battles. Pick Leafbun if you plan to catch everything and need status support.
2. First 30 Minutes β Optimal Route
Your first half hour sets the foundation for the entire game. Follow this route to maximise your progress and avoid common early-game mistakes.
0β5 min β Starter Plaza
Talk to Professor Arden, choose your starter, and complete the tutorial battle. Name your starter when prompted β you cannot rename later. Grab the 3 free Potions from the lab assistant before leaving.
5β12 min β Route 1: Verdant Grove
Battle every trainer on Route 1. Defeat all 6 trainers for a total of ~1,200 EXP and β΅300. Catch a Pidgy (Flying) β you'll need it for the mount quest later. Open the 3 chests hidden along the route (see chest section below).
12β20 min β Greenhollow Town
Heal at the PokΓ©center, then visit the Mart. Buy 5β10 PokΓ©balls and 3 Antidotes. Talk to the old man in the house near the fountain β he gives you the EXP Share item. Equip it immediately on your starter.
20β30 min β Gym #1 Prep
Grind wild evomons west of Greenhollow to reach level 12. Catch a Sparkit (Electric) β it counters the first Gym Leader's Water types. Collect the hidden Rare Candy behind the gym building. You should end with your starter at level 12β14 and 2β3 backup evomons.
3. How to Get a Flying Mount
Flying mounts are the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade in Evomon. They let you skip terrain, reach hidden areas, and farm chests efficiently. Here's the step-by-step:
- 1.Reach Trainer Level 15. Battling trainers and catching evomons both grant trainer XP. Complete all Route 1 and 2 trainer battles β that alone should get you to level 13β14. Finish Gym #1 to hit level 15.
- 2.Catch a Flying-type evomon. The easiest option is Pidgy (Route 1, common spawn). Alternative: Windrill (Route 3, uncommon spawn). The flying mount quest NPC only accepts Flying-types in your party β keep it in your active team.
- 3.Travel to Cloudrest Summit. From Greenhollow Town, head north through Route 4 until you reach the mountain base. Use the climbing paths (no rock-climb HM needed for the summit trail) to reach the peak. Look for NPC Aviara near the shrine.
- 4.Complete the "Skyward Bound" quest. Aviara asks you to demonstrate your bond with your Flying-type. Win a battle against her using only your Flying evomon (level 10+ recommended). After winning, she grants you the Sky Saddle key item β this unlocks permanent flight.
- 5.Use your mount. Open your inventory, select Sky Saddle, and choose your Flying-type evomon. You can now fly across the entire map. Press Space to ascend and Shift to descend. Sprint while flying costs stamina β land periodically to recharge.
β οΈ Important: You must keep a Flying-type in your party to fly. If you deposit all Flying-types into storage, you lose flight access until you retrieve one.
4. Keep One Evomon for EXP β Don't Spread Thin
The most common beginner mistake is trying to level every evomon equally. This leaves your entire team underleveled and makes boss fights unnecessarily difficult.
π― The "Carry Strategy"
Pour 80% of your EXP into one evomon β your starter. A level 30 Bubble can solo most content through zone 4, while a team of six level 15 evomons will wipe against the second gym. Your carry handles battles; your other evomons are for HM moves, catching, and type coverage when absolutely needed.
π When to Expand Your Team
- β’ After Gym #2 (level 25+ carry): Start leveling a secondary evomon to level 20 for type coverage.
- β’ After Gym #4 (level 40+ carry): Build a full team of 6 around level 35β40 for endgame content.
- β’ For PvP: Level 3β4 evomons evenly to counter meta threats. PvP scales to level 50, so a single overleveled evomon gets hard-countered.
π§ͺ EXP Share Usage
Equip the EXP Share (obtained in Greenhollow Town) on your carry evomon. It distributes 50% of battle EXP to the rest of your party β this passively levels your backups without diverting resources from your main evomon. Never unequip the EXP Share unless you're doing a specific solo challenge.
5. Chest Farming β Open Every Chest You See
Chests are your best source of free PokΓ©balls, potions, TMs, and rare items. They respawn every 2 hours (real time), so you can farm them repeatedly. Here's the breakdown:
π Best Chest Locations
- π’ Verdant Grove β 3 chests: behind the waterfall, top of the eastern cliff, and inside the hollow tree near the ranger station.
- π Ember Canyon β 2 chests: inside the cave behind the breakable rock, and on the ledge reachable only by flying mount.
- π΅ Frostpeak Pass β 4 chests: scattered along the mountain path. Bring Antidotes β poison tiles deal damage while navigating.
- π£ Cloudrest Summit β 2 chests: near Aviara's shrine and behind the ancient pillar. Requires flying mount to reach.
π Chest Rewards by Rarity
- Common (white glow) β Potions, basic PokΓ©balls, β΅50β200
- Uncommon (green glow) β Great Balls, Super Potions, low-tier TMs, β΅300β600
- Rare (blue glow) β Ultra Balls, Hyper Potions, mid-tier TMs, Rare Candy
- Epic (purple glow) β Master Ball (extremely rare), high-tier TMs, evolution stones, β΅2,000+
π Efficient Chest Route
Once you have a flying mount, the optimal route takes ~8 minutes: start at Verdant Grove (3 chests) β fly west to Ember Canyon (2 chests) β fly north to Frostpeak Pass (4 chests) β finish at Cloudrest Summit (2 chests). That's 11 chests per run. Repeat every 2 hours for maximum efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which starter should I pick in Evomon?
Bubble (Water) is the safest pick β strong early-game survivability and good matchups against early bosses. Blazpup (Fire) has the highest damage output but is squishy. Leafbun (Grass) is balanced but struggles against common Fire-type encounters. If you want an easy start, pick Bubble.
How do I get a flying mount in Evomon?
Reach trainer level 15 and complete the "Skyward Bound" quest from the NPC at Cloudrest Summit. You'll need to catch a Flying-type evomon (Pidgy or Windrill are the easiest early options) and bring it to the quest NPC. The mount unlocks permanent flight across the map.
Should I level all my evomons equally?
No β focus your EXP on one main evomon early on. A single high-level evomon can carry you through the first three zones, while spreading EXP across your team leaves everyone underleveled and struggling against bosses.
How do I get more chests in Evomon?
Chests respawn every 2 hours at fixed locations across the map. Key locations: Verdant Grove (3 chests), Ember Canyon (2 chests), and Frostpeak Pass (4 chests). Use a flying mount to quickly rotate between zones and maximize chest farming per session.
